Artist Statement – Mary Aten Photography
Mary Aten
I have a passion for photography and a passion for nature. Through my photography, I look for the beauty of nature and a unique perspective on the landscape. Light, color, and form play a large role in the composition of my images. Common themes are water, birds, animals, flowers, mans impact on nature, and abstract interpretation of nature as I see it.
My training has been in black and white dark room, digital imaging (Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 6), color design, photoshop for designers, studio photography, and the business aspects of photography.
I have been exhibiting and selling my photography in Western Michigan and Florida. I also conduct workshops and training to share my knowledge with others. I have had the honor of serving as an Artist In Residence for the National Park Service at Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in Wyoming and Montana, during September of 2016. I photographed wildlife, landscapes, Pryor Mountain Wild Mustangs, and the Northern Lights while at Bighorn. Additionally I made a presentation and conducted composition workshops at Bighorn Canyon. While in Michigan, I taught photography through the school district community education.
