Bighorn Canyon Artist in Residence Video
Below is a video of my favorite photos from my time at Bighorn Canyon as an Artist in Residence in fall 2016. They include landscapes, ghost towns, Pryor mountain wild mustangs, cowboys, night photography, and Northern Lights. The video includes scenes from Bighorn Canyon and the Bighorn Mountains.
Purpose of Artist in Residence Program
The general purpose of Artist in Residence programs is for the artist to focus on their work, without the distractions of daily life; to share their knowledge with the public, and spread the word about the beauty of the parks (at least this is my interpretation). While I was there, I presented a slide show depicting my grandparent’s 1921 camping trip across the country, which included journal entries and photos. I also held two outdoor workshops on photo composition.
Other Benefits of Artist in Residence Program
In addition to learning the about the area and the history, I hung out out with a great bunch of rangers. Special thanks to Christy Fleming and the National Park Service. Also Thank You to Lynn Richardson and Marilyn Feather, former Artist in Residents, who gave me tours of the area along with capturing great photos together.
